In early November 2024, Rosstandard (EAEU certification authority) adopted the GOST standards for notebooks and electronics. The adopted GOST Standards specify the safety requirements and technical specifications for notebooks and electronics.

The following GOST standards are involved:

1.    GOST R 71174-2024 - Notebooks, Terms and Definitions.
2.    GOST R 71202-2024 - Notebooks, Main Parameters, General Requirements.

These are the first GOST standards for notebooks in Russia and EAEU member states.

The first standard establishes the relevant terminology. GOST R 71174-2024 clearly defines the terms notebook, semi-portable, portable, and mobile computer, docking station, various types of keyboards, and other terms.

The second standard sets forth the safety requirements as per GOST R 71202-2024. The safety requirements of GOST IEC 60950-1-2014 apply to the assembly, maintenance, use, and repair of notebooks and similar electronic devices.

Regarding electrical and mechanical safety, as well as measures and protection classes against electric shock, notebooks must comply with the requirements of GOST 25861-83. The standard also includes technical specifications for built-in webcams, touchpads, and remote lock functions.

Furthermore, GOST R 71202-2024 mandates tests for shock resistance, battery life, energy consumption, dust and moisture protection, as well as other characteristics of notebooks.

The GOST standards will come into effect on January 1, 2025.

Note: Previously, Rosstandard also adopted standards for personal computers - GOST R 71173-2024 and tablet computers - GOST R 71181-2024. These documents describe the types, main parameters, and general technical requirements for these products.

What are GOST standards for notebooks and electronics?
GOST Standards are norms adopted by Rosstandard that establish safety requirements and technical specifications for notebooks and electronics. They ensure that the products comply with the specified safety and quality standards.
When do the new GOST standards for notebooks come into effect?
The new GOST standards will come into effect on January 1, 2025. From this date, all notebooks and similar electronic devices in Russia and the EAEU member states must comply with these standards.
What safety requirements are established in the GOST standards?
The GOST standards establish safety requirements in accordance with the standard GOST R 71202-2024. These include electrical and mechanical safety, measures against electric shock, as well as technical specifications for components such as webcams and touchpads.
What tests must notebooks pass according to the new GOST standards?
Notebooks must pass tests for shock resistance, battery life, energy consumption, as well as dust and moisture protection. These tests ensure that the devices meet the high standards of quality and reliability.
Why are the new GOST standards important for consumers?
The new GOST standards are important because they ensure that notebooks and electronic devices are safe and reliable. Consumers can trust that the products meet the latest safety and quality requirements.
