On August 2, 2024, the decision of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) No. 86 dated July 30, 2024, was officially published.

With Decision No. 86 of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), the amendments to the standards directory for rules and testing procedures necessary to meet the safety requirements of TR CU 005/2011 on the safety of packaging in the Eurasian Economic Union were approved.

Amendments to GOST for Packaging

These are amendments to GOST Standards approved by Decision No. 9 of the EAEU Collegium dated January 29, 2024.

Update of GOST Standards

  1. GOST 5037-2016 is replaced by GOST 33748-2016
  2. GOST R 51864-2008 is replaced by GOST R 51864-2002

The updated GOST standards establish safety requirements for deep-drawn aluminum cans with easy-to-open lids, as well as for procedures for testing the strength of fasteners and handles of containers.

The new versions of GOST standards for packaging will come into effect on September 1, 2024.

EAC Certification for Packaging

The EAC conformity confirmation for packaging and packaging materials is carried out in accordance with the regulations of TR CU/EAEU directives of the Eurasian Economic Union.

The safety requirements of TR CU directives of the Eurasian Economic Union define uniform regulations for the quality of packaging in the EAEU member states.

The TR CU directive TR CU 005/2011 on the safety of packaging and packaging materials in the Eurasian Economic Union includes mandatory requirements for the manufacture, composition, and transport of packaging and packaging materials.

The goal of TR CU/EAEU directives of the EAEU states is to protect the lives and health of citizens in the Eurasian Economic Union.

EAC Declaration for Packaging

The EAC approval for most packaging is carried out in the form of an EAC declaration. The EAC declaration for packaging is a mandatory document for export processing and customs clearance of packaging in EAEU member states.

The regulations of the directive TR CU 005/2011 on the safety of packaging of the Eurasian Economic Union require conformity confirmation for packaging and packaging materials through an EAC declaration.

Packaging for pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical and medical products, tobacco products, and hazardous goods are not subject to the regulations of the directive TR CU 005/2011 on the safety of packaging and packaging materials.

The EAC approval for such packaging is carried out in accordance with other EAC standards, GOST standards, or TR CU directives, such as in the registration of medical devices or EAC approval of tobacco products (TR CU 035/2014).

The technical regulation TR CU 005/2011 - On the safety of packaging and packaging materials also applies to such packaging produced by manufacturers of other products.
